24 Hours in a Day: How Are You Getting It Done?

At our meetup, attendees enjoyed a night of networking, drinks, and an insightful panel discussion led by Georgie-Ann Getton-McKoy and Chauntel Greaves.

Key Takeaways on Productivity:

How do you break down a large project?

Georgie: Write down the big tasks that need to get done and the subtasks. Then start with the tasks you don't want to do first.

Chauntel: I break to identify the What, When, Why, Who, and How of any project. For example:

What: You want to build a website.

When: Website is launched in 2 months.

Why: I'm launching a business and need clients to find me.

Who: Me, a photographer, a graphic designer

How: Create sitemap, draw wireframes, write content, get pictures, etc.

How do you juggle work and home responsibilities?

Chauntel and Georgie had 3 main tips of juggling competing responsibilities.

1) Outsource. Don't feel guilty about hiring domestic help. If you can pay someone 5 hours a week for $100 when you can make say $1,000 in that time it's a no brainer. Rise above family or friend backlash or guilt-tripping.

2) Set boundaries. Honor your work hours and even create physical space boundaries to help keep you focused. For example, Georgie uses a desktop so she stays working at home.

3) Try waking up 1 hour earlier. Set only 1 or 2 tasks to do and get them done in one-hour first thing in the morning.

What's the biggest myth about productivity?

Both Chauntel and Georgie agree multitasking is not a thing! Use a timer to focus on just one thing at a time.

Attendees were not only gifted with inspiration and tips of how to get organized and stay productive but two lucky attendees won 2 signed copies of our panelist’s book, “The Art of Getting Sh*t Done” by Georgie-Ann Getton-McKoy.

After the panel, attendees participated in “Show and Tell, Ask and Gives” in which they each received 30 seconds to…

  • Promote their business

  • Seek advice

  • Offer their skills to the group

Special thanks to 3rd Space for providing an amazing venue, Peter Hadar for moderating the panel and Downtown Caribbean Eats for sponsoring the delicious food!
